frequently asked questions!
How does it work?
After you book a photoshoot, you’ll be emailed an invoice and contract. If your photoshoot requires a consultation, you’ll be asked to make time for a 15 minute phone call prior to the photoshoot. You can schedule a consultation on the booking page.
I take a 20% deposit at the time of booking to hold the date. You’ll be asked to pay the remaining balance on the day of the photoshoot.
Please arrive at your photoshoot on time and prepared. Tips sheets on how to prepare are specific to the type of photoshoot and will be provided with your booking invoice. Photoshoots can take anywhere from 10 minutes to several hours. Under the services pages you’ll find more details about the amount of time each photoshoot will take and the number of pictures you can expect to receive.
After your photoshoot, I will sort through your top images and perform an initial editing process. This process can take anywhere from a couple of hours to a few weeks depending on the extensiveness of the photoshoot and my business that time of year. I will do my best to communicate anticipated return time before and after the photoshoot. If you need your photos by a specific deadline, please communicate your deadline before booking the photoshoot.
Your edited photos will be emailed to you via a PicTime gallery link. You’ll be prompted to create a password for your gallery. From here you’ll be able to download your high resolution images or order prints. You can share this link and password with your friends and family so they can access the gallery too.
If your photoshoot includes additional touch-ups, you’ll be asked to select an agreed upon number of images for additional editing. After performing touch ups on your selected images I will upload the final images to the same gallery.
Shoot Day
I will absolutely help guide you through posing. It does not come naturally to everybody. And don’t feel bad if it doesn’t. How to stand for a picture and how you stand in real life are different things.
For headshots, I will guide you through a series of poses. Then I will usually return to one or two poses that looked great for you. For longer photoshoots, we will usually move from simpler poses to more complicated poses.
Don’t strive to match so much as compliment each other. Pick a color scheme that everyone can work with. Blues, greens or beiges are good color pallets that most people have in their closets. Black and white should be used as complimentary colors, but rarely as primary colors – there are exceptions to this but it should be done purposefully and discussed with the photographer prior.
Photo Delivery
Anywhere from the same day to several weeks. In most cases, initial headshot edits will be emailed out the same afternoon. A half day branding photoshoot booked during peak busy season could take 3 to 6 weeks to return. I will do my best to communicate anticipated return time before and after the photoshoot. If you have a specific deadline, please communicate this before the photoshoot. A rush charge may be applied if the deadline requires me to work outside my scheduled hours.
You will be emailed a link to a gallery where you will have access to high resolution downloads of all of your images. You are free to download, upload, post, print and share the pictures as you see fit.
I do not print in house. And currently I do not offer packages. However you may easily order prints through the gallery page provided. I can also make recommendations for local print shops.
You can absolutely request extra edits on photos. I typically do not charge for requests that take less than 15 minutes. (75% of requests) For more complicated requests I might request an additional fee which will be communicated prior to the work being done.
Headshots
Touch ups are included on all headshots and some other kinds of personal photography.
- Face: I will brighten eyes, whiten teeth, remove unwanted blemishes, and reduce face shine, wrinkles and dark circles.
- Clothing: I will work to de-wrinkle clothing, remove spots or stains, reduce glare on glasses and clean up stray hairs.
- Background: I will remove unwanted distractions like light stands or outlet covers, unwanted shadows or creases in the backdrop.
For headshot sessions in which you receive proofs, yes, you can request touch ups on additional images from the same session for a rate of $50 per image (price may vary).
In most cases, professional headshots can be turned around in 48 hours with an additional $65 rush charge.
